Guatemala uses USA-style plugs (2-pin). Power cuts are common, especially in Lake Atitlán area. Bring a portable power bank!

NEVER flush toilet paper! Use the bin provided. This applies everywhere in Central America to avoid blocking pipes.
Many stray dogs everywhere. Don't pet them - rabies is widespread. Watch where you walk! Seek medical attention immediately if bitten.
Always ask permission before photographing people. Many locals don't like having their photo taken and may get upset.
Not widespread but appreciated. Tourist restaurants add 10% automatically. Tip tour guides if service is good.
